The weather men were promising the best day of the week for this one, 3 to 5 m.p.h. winds and sunshine, and you won`t believe it but they were right
Just 11 of us got up early for the long drive to Holyhead, and 10 weighed in. With the new bag limit of 2 of each species in force, it meant that extra species were important, but two good wrasse will always give you a good weight.
Mitch drew the golden card, and with his mountain goat impression at South Stack being on the cards it looked as though he would be hard to beat.
By weighing in time it turned out that the ones who had made a move or two during the match had proved successful, with Mike Peters leading the field on 3.37 kgs. 2 ballan wrasse, 2 dogs, a pollack and a tompot blenny made up his bag, 2nd place went to Norman Dorling, with 2 ballans, 2 dogs and 2 corkwing for 3.17 kgs.,Dave Lunt was 3rd with 2 ballans, 2 dogs, 2 corkwings and a sea scorpion for 3.10, and 4th was Dave Mitchell with 2 ballans and 2 dogs for 2.44. Barry Haigh was 5th with just 2 ballans for 2.02, one of these was the heaviest fish of the match at 1.24 kgs. ( 2-12-00 lbs.) and Alan Jones was 6th, just behind, with 2.01.
Here`s one of Alan`s fish, a decent ballan.
and here`s one of Gary Bates with a double header of a male cuckoo and an undersize ballan
Top team on the day were Mike Peters and Dave Lunt with an impressive 76 points, and the golden card kitty rolls over to £207 for the next match.
The semi final results of the K.O. cup were,
Terry Jones 1.88 kgs. - Jordan Roberts 0 ( didn`t fish )
Norman Dorling 3.17 kgs. - Dave Mitchell 2.44 kgs.
Final at the next match Terry v Norman
