Summer match 1. Conwy estuary rover. 25/4/09.

A disappointing turnout of 21 club members fished the first leg of our summer league in the Conwy estuary earlier today.

The match was fished 3 down and 1 up, so the majority of people headed for the lagoon to target the Flounders. However those of us who have previously fished there with the juniors headed to Benarth, in the hope the Eels had arrived there.

We set up and cast inbetween the moored boats and Toms rod was registering a good bite within the first quarter of an hour. He unfortunately missed this bite, along with another which was just as good on his second cast.

The action hotted up. I had a nibble which turned out to be my biggest ever Flounder at 1-11-8lbs and over the clubs specimen weight so i was well happy


Tom managed a slightly smaller one soon after.


Terry meanwhile, was struggling and had managed an undersized Flounder for his efforts, while Chris and Stephen who were fishing next to us had a fish each. They continued to get smaller ones including this one for Stephen


Terry got an in sized one in the end but as the tide dropped the Flounders went off the feed and as hoped the Eels arrived.

We all bagged up with the snotties, including a few double headers between us.

I ticked another target off my species hunt


Eventually, it was time to pack up and head back for the weigh in.

A bag of 4 Flounders, including a fine fish over 2lb took top spot for Mitch.
Chris Jackson, who fished with us was second with 5 Flounders and 7 Eels, with me in third with a Flounder and 6 Eels.
Terry was fourth with 2 Flounder and 3 Eels, and Tom showed its not just the juniors he can beat, by finishing fifth overall, and top junior on the day with a Flounder and 3 Eels.

With 2 junior matches scheduled at Benarth in the next few months, i cant wait to get back and get into those snotties again.

21 fished with 13 managing to weigh in.

The winner was Mitch with 4 Flounders for 2.48 Kgs, including the heaviest fish of .95 Kgs, ( 02-01-08 )
Second was Chris Jackson with 5 Flounders and 7 Eels for a weight of 2.36 Kgs.
I was third with a Flounder and 6 Eels for 1.72Kgs, Terry was fourth with 2 Flounders and 3 Eels for 1.67Kgs, and Tom managed fifth and took the junior prize with a Flounder and 3 Eels for 1.14Kgs.

Me and Daddy were top team with 69 points.

You must have lost your touch during your winter break Sam.

Would this be a good area to spin for bass soon(benarth). i am dusting off my rapalas and will be buying some of them slug-go's??. flooding tide?

The water isnt very clear ther so im not sure.

I guess you will never know unless you try, but one of the juniors had a schoolie there last year in a junior match.
