70 anglers fished Colwyn Bay Victoria sea angling clubs Fur and Feather Open on North Shore on Saturday night.
With calm conditions, the competitors were faced with freezing temperatures and the challenge of picking out the in size fish from the hoards of pin Whiting that were plaguing everybody. There were no Dogfish or Codling weighed in, with Dabs and Rockling the other main species to make an appearence, which also meant a lot of work trying to find the heaviest fish.
The match winner was Bill Linfield, of Greasby. His bag of 13 Whiting from A zone weighed 5-02-08 Lbs and earned him £185 and 7 Penn points.
Alan Price of Kinmel Bay was second, with a bag of 13 Whiting from C zone for 4-00-04 Lbs, £93 and 6 Penn points.
S. Lewis of Holyhead took third spot with 5 Whiting, 2 Dabs and a Rockling from A zone for 3-13-04 Lbs, £62 and 5 Penn points.
The three zone winners prizes of £40 each, were awarded to the top placed angler in each zone, who didnt feature in the top prizes. These went to M.Evans ( Holyhead ) in A zone with 3-09-00, Nev Charlesworth ( Withersea ) in B zone, with 2-15-00, and G. Wood ( Holyhead ) in C zone with 2-11-12.
The heaviest round fish was a Whiting of 0-11-00 caught by A. Bennett and the heaviest flatfish was a Dab of 0-13-08 Lbs, caught by Ian Brookes. They were both worth £32 to their captors.
The top junior on the night was Nathan Croft ( Holyhead ), with a bag weight of 0-13-00 and the top lady angler was S. Thomas ( Llandudno ) with a weight of 1-03-00. They both won £15 and a tin of chocolates each.
Thanks to everyone who fished, and to Nige Conlon for his help at the weigh in. See you all next year.
Merry Christmas!
