I took up a spare space aboard Suveran II for an 8 hour trip on Friday.
The weather was cracking all day, and the fishing was pretty hectic too, with loads of fish.
We started off near the Calcium and picked up plenty of Mackeral to feathers and then baited feathers accounted for lots of Whiting, some nice Dabs along with lots of smaller ones, and the expected Dogs.
I had a small Codling and a couple of the other lads caught Huss up to double figures.
With the Tope rods remaining quiet, we decided upon a move further out. We had a couple of drifts over the wreck which produced some small Pout and Poor Cod before heading out.
The next spot produced pretty much the same results, but with fewer Dogs and more Whiting and Dabs.
I was happy to pick up a couple of Gurnard for the hunt.
A small tub Gurnard,
…and a Red Gurnard.
Tony on Jensen had an 18lb Smoothie aboard on the morning tide, and so we moved back inshore for a go at the Smoothies for the last hour or so, passing the Rhyl Flats windfarm on the way.
At the smoothie mark, we only had 3 crab each to use, and I was hoping for a starry smoothie for the hunt after last weeks decent common.
First cast and it was fish on within a few minutes. It turned out to be another common, but put up a good scrap in the shallow water.
Next cast and I was in again! Another good scrap and this time it was a Starry so happy days.
We weighed this one out of interest and it tipped the scales to 8lb 4oz.
I decided to use some lug in search of a Bass for the hunt for the next couple of drops, but as the time to pack up drew near, there were a couple of crab left to use up so I rebaited with one and managed a second Starry but this one was only about 6lb.
The best smoothie aboard was 12lb 8oz, and between us we had 7 or 8 fish in an hour fishing for them.
All too soon it was time for home so ill have to leave the Tope for another day, but another fantastic trip aboard Suveran with Simon.
