With flat calm conditions, our planned 8 hour trip aboard Simon Parrys Suveran II went ahead yesterday.
With 7 of us aboard, we were able to fish 2 rods each so the plan was to fish one with whole Mackeral for Tope or Huss, and one with smaller baits to target the Gurnard.
We stopped off on the way out and got enough Mackeral for bait, and to make up some rubby dubby, along with a few weevers, then it was off to the Tope mark.
We hadn’t been there long when Wes had the first run on his light set up. After a short fight, he brought a Tope estimated at 20Lbs to the boat.
I had a bite on my big stuff but no run, so it was no surprise to see this coming up through the water on the retrieve. It was weighed at 07-08-00Lbs.
We had another Tope aboard which was roughly the same size as Wes`s fish before it went quiet and we moved to a mark further out where we got a good view of the rig.
The big rod stayed quiet at this mark, but the baited sabikis were giving me at least a fish a drop with Dabs, Whiting and Tub and Red Gurnard and Mackeral keeping me busy.
Once the tide turned, we moved closer inshore where we were treated to much of the same, although i had a few Grey Gurnard here to complete my hattrick.
One of the lads had a small Thornie, a few Huss came up, including a nicely marked one that spat my hook at the side of the boat. It wasn’t any bigger than my earlier one, but would have made a nice photo at least.
Before we knew it, it was time to head for home and to start looking forward to my next trip out a week on Friday.
Happy Days!!!
