10 of us booked a trip last Sat out of Liverpool with Gwynie Andrews aboard Goldilocks, it was our first trip out with him and fair play he’s got a nice setup.
We were fishing 9-7, we all managed to get there a little early so we were in the lock waiting for some water by 8.45 and this gave Gwinie a chance to sort rods, reels, rigs and weights out for the novices on board which was all free of charge fair play to him.
A ten min steam down river had us on our first mark called the sheds we didn’t have to wait that long for the first fish which was a nice cod of 3lb and over next few hours we landed 4 and lost a few.
A big pot of curry soup and bread signalled dinner time so it would have been rude not to have had a cup or 2 and it all went down a treat!
The ebbing tide had slowed down and so had the fishing, the crabs came out play so Gwynie suggested a move to the Brazil buoy off New Brighton to try for a late Thorny and we could also fish for whiting and Dabs.
So after a quick move down river he had us anchored up over the bank and out came his scratching rigs for the lads that hadn’t caught anything yet and true to his promise he made sure everybody walked off the boat with a fish or 2.
Here we caught a load of decent Whiting Dabs and 1 of the lads had the only Thorny of the trip weighing in around 4lb which took the pool for the heaviest fish which was £50.(jammy git)!
The final mark we fished was opposite the clock tower were we fished the flood. Once there we polished of a hot pasty and a brew and then it was back to action but the fish weren’t playing.
Adam had the only in-size cod and the rest of us had to make do with smaller ones.
So all in all we had a cracking day out and the bonus of a few fish each.
Big thanks to Gwynie for putting up with us, good banter, cups of teas, food, rods, reels, bait etc. Cheers mate..
