| Subject: A day out on Goldilocks Charter's 26th April 2009, 9:26 pm | |
| Goldilocks charter's the latest addition to the Rhyl angling fleet booked for Saturday 25th for a 7hr trip it was with some disappointment hearing the forecast of easterly winds of force 4 and above so Goldilocks skipper Gwynnie Andrews gave us the option of a 5hr slot sailing at 09-50hrs on the Sunday morning with a much better day weather wise with light south-westerlies and a fair bit of sunshine predicted, if all the anglers could do the Sunday it was a no brainer so a few phone calls and Sunday morning it was.
Sunday arrived with very little wind and bright sunshine as we headed off to the crossroads cafe at Kinmell Bay for a good breakfast to set us up for the day, we boarded Goldilocks at 09-45hrs and set off to the inshore marks. Goldilocks is a roomy very stable craft and i found her to be a great platform to fish off, she is fitted with a chart plotter fishfinder vhf radio and all safety equipment, even so Gwynnie has a programme of ongoing improvements for her for the coming year, an upgrade of the electronic equipment and and the installation of a new cooker are to be installed shortly. For anyone thinking of a charter trip to take advantage of the excellent fishing Rhyl has to offer Gwyn can supply all that is needed for an enjoyable day afloat, rod hire is of high quality and rigs that have been designed specifically to catch the mainstay of the species that swim these waters, all baits can be ordered with a reasonable amount of notice given.
Fishing expectations for our trip were not that high but we were expecting good quality dabs, whiting and of course the dogs after all it is still early, after arriving at Gwynnies chosen mark it was as expected with dabs in abundance, doubles and triples were coming in on a regular basis with the odd whiting and a good splattering of dogs, i did manage an early tub gurnard probably just short of the pound mark, quick photo and popped back in the drink to put on a few pounds, Wyn Parry managed a tub of similar size a bit later in the day which was promptly returned.
Ian Boulton had a take of a better quality fish and after a short scrap landed another early visitor in the shape of a starry smoothhound around the 4-5 pound bracket, things are looking up
This fish turned out to be the best of the day and it seems that we are well into the transition period when the summer species are starting to show themselves, a few of the not so welcome lesser weavers turned up as well. So to sum up the day, very enjoyable plenty of fish albeit mostly dabs but also a sign of the good things to come, plenty of brews, great company thanks to Fishy for arranging the trip. Here are a few more pics from the day
Fester taking a bit of a break from the fishing.
Wyn trying out the skippers seat for size.
Another shot of Ian with his smut and you can make out the skipper doing what he does best through the window (brewing up)
One of the many tripple headers of dabs taken through the day.
For those of you who don't know the skipper i cant recommend him enough, he has some quality credentials with near thirty years of boat angling to the highest level, representing Wales as Captain of the home international squad in Abroath Scotland, Wales taking the Silver and just missing out on Gold, there is never a dull moment with Gwyn about the banter is constant, he is also always at hand to help novices and juniors, So thanks for a great day Gwynnie till the next one.
