3 juniors fished a warm but soggy Foryd this evening for the final leg of Colwyn Bay Victoria sea angling clubs Junior summer league 2009.
All armed with peeler crab and reports of good numbers of Flounder in the river, hopes were high for the match, and the first cast produced fish for Jack and Stephen.
Tom managed a double header on his second cast.
and everything was looking very good until a group turned up with a jetski.
Now 2 hours before high on a 23 foot tide was a bit dodgy and I told them as much, but they unhitched the trailer and wheeled it through the mud at the bottom of the slipway and proceeded to launch.
They then spent half an hour whizzing through the area in front of the kids, and the fishing suffered.
It amazes me how the craft didn’t bottom out on the rocks upstream of where we were fishing or the sandbank opposite, but unfortunately it didn’t.
After realising they couldn’t get their trailer out of the mud, they left it and all went to the steps near the Blue Shark cabin to take turns going between the boats. At least it gave us a bit of peace for a while.
The fish started to feed again, with Stephen catching steadily.
Jack managed a couple of Eels which were fun
as well as a couple more Flounders, but Tom couldnt hook any of his bites and failed to add to his 2 fish.
A decent sized Mullet swam past a couple of times to tantalise us all,
and we had a visit from a local superstar who caught one estimated at 8lb, last month on Pea very close to here!!!
The jetski returned and although only the towing hitch of the trailer was showing above the water, they somehow managed to get it out. ( They had already snapped a rope earlier on, and by the smoke coming from the front end of the BMW they were using, it may need a new clutch as well! )
The last couple of casts were quiet, and we were all glad to get out of the mud and the showers.
Stephen took the honours with 9 Flounders for a total length of 333cms.
Jack was second with 4 Flounders and 2 Eels for 229cms and Tom was third with 2 Flounders for 77cms.
The Summer league champion is Tom with 55 points from 4 matches fished and a total of 404cms.
Stephen finishes second with 2 wins from 2 matches fished giving him 30 points and 536cms in total.
Elliot also won 2 matches for 30 points, but his total of 349cms puts him in third position and Jack is fourth with 27 points from 2 matches and a total of 331cms.
