| The club awards trophies every year for specimen fish, including 2 for the most species caught over specimen weight, both inside and outside club waters, on boat and shore.
The competition for these honours is at an all time low, with people winning them by accident with fish entered from club matches, ( and i still havent won one after trying every year for the last God knows how many!!!)
This is possibly down to the fact that to have a fish weighed, on club scales, it is likely to have to be killed.
Would changing the format of these trophies to most amount of species recorded ie with digi photos or witnessed, encourage more people to try and fish for these trophies and take a bit of pride in winning them?
Fish could then be released after photo, or identification, and a few extra people might turn up to presentation night to collect awards they have competed for, rather than ignoring awards they have won by accident.
Your thoughts please people???

Your thoughts please people??? I think a change in format wouldnt be a bad idea at all because at the end of the day its pointless killing a fish just to claim a specimen(unless your taking it home to eat which is fair enough).E.g Adam had a specie smoothound on the boat a few weeks back but the thought of weighing it in didnt even cross any of minds because at the end of day no poxy trophy is worth killing such lovely sport fish like that,so maybe a rethink of claiming a specimen is in order.Another issue is, if you catch a specie its a pain in the a### to take it around to some ones house to get it weighed on offical club scales, its not worth the hassle sometimes.Maybe a length to weight format would be better(with a piccy and/or a witness veryfying it) or some other format ????
