PostSubject: My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08   My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Empty30th June 2008, 9:46 pm

After an earlier start than normal, and with it being a Sunday morning I decided to stop off here…….

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Macd

For some breakfast……..

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Breakfast

Suitably stocked up in the calorie department for a days fishing on the rocks, I made my way to Amwlch at a steady 60mph doing my best to coax 20mpg out of the beast! (This included slipstreaming behind the lorries and free wheeling down the hills!!!) Any way arrived in Amlwch about 9.30am to find Norm, Gary and Mitch already chatting. I was on my own today as Roger the dodger couldnt manage a stag do and fishing and Michael's in love! (how are you Welshi? as it says at the bottom of the page "SAM NO MERCY" ha ha)

The weather didn’t look promising and soon after I arrived it started raining (typical Anglesey weather!)…..

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Rain

It didn’t last long and it stopped shortly after, this was to be how it was for most of the day, one minute burning my head the next minute putting the water proofs back on! (Unfortunately, forgetting to keep my hat on has resulted in a touch of sunburn!)

Time to walk out….
After vowing all week that I wasn’t bothering to walk too far I still ended up following Norman to the far end, well I nearly did , only dropping off a few hundred yards before he reached his favourite mark!
It wasn’t long before I was joined by Gary which I was happy about as it’s always safer to be near somebody in case of any mishaps!
Here’s blaster set up waiting for the off……..

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Image013

Within seconds I was into my first dog……

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Doggie

Closely followed by my first wrasse………..

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Wrasse1

The next twenty minutes were hectic with me being swarmed by dogs, close in, far out, rag worm, crab it didn’t matter! Half an hour gone with my quota of dogs in my bucket it was time for targeting the wrasse, this is where things took a change for the worse! While blaster was catching wrasse one after the other, each one bigger than the last, I couldn’t find one for love nor money which got more frustrating as time went by.

Here’s blaster doing his “mountain goat impression” after fetching water for his first of many quality wrasse, I didn’t take any photos of him landing his fish as I didn’t want to encourage him!!!

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Blaster

Fours hours gone, I decided enough was enough… and after a quick wave to “Billy no mates” in the distance….

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Billynomates

It was time to bust a lung and venture off in pursuit of pastures new!
After what felt like a marathon and my legs at bursting point, I dropped off the track and made my way to the edge of the cliff, it didn’t look spectacular and as I didn’t have a clue where id fished the previous year I decided to give it a go, fishing from high up over a ledge with only a small gulley to guide any fish through before winching them up.

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Secondmark3

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Secondmark1

Ten seconds after casting my first rig out I turned around to see my rod about to be taken into the sea, this was the result….

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Wrasse2

Now with a grin on my face as I new Kev would be gutted if he new! lol! I cast out my second trace, again this was only in the water a couple of minutes before it was banging away again! Wrasse number 3! (if only I could have let kev know!)

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Wrasse3

By now it was nearly time to pack up for the second time and as I reeled in, a Pollack took a last minute decision to hit my moving trace just under the surface as I was about to lift my trace out of the water, a bonus for me as it was just in… not so good for the Pollack though!.... Sad

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Pollack

We had a couple of boats about during the day to keep us occupied, at one stage I thought Kev was shouting abuse at one who had come in close to empty his pots! (I know it’s unusual for Kevin to be abusive or loud!) Razz So obviously I was mistaken!

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Boat

All in all not a bad day, definitely made better when I learned the move had paid dividends as the two extra wrasse and the bonus Pollack had done enough for 1st place!

Sam.

Im waiting for Terry to send me the pictures before i put them in.

Brother Ad, Terry and I fished just short of where Sam was fishing, and could see Blaster reeling in Wrasse after Wrasse, which was a little annoying, as after having one first chuck, it went quiet where we were on the wrassing rods. Rolling Eyes

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Amlwch_001

The Doggie rod, resulted in several pups in the first hour, which were put in a rockpool to swim around until bigger ones were caught. Unfortunately, they were all small, and trying to decide which one to throw back, every time i caught one was a pain in the ass! Mad

I also had several Dabs, which were all between 20cm and 22cm, and a small Whiting and a small Codling on the longer range rod. Evil or Very Mad

Adam had a Pout first cast and soon added his Dogs but he was getting fed up not catching wrasse, so decided a move was in order. This suited me just fine, as i quite fancied the gulley he was dropping into, and as he disappeared over the headland, i jumped into his spot. Within 30 seconds, i was reeling in my second in size wrasse. lol! alas, he was out of shouting range, even for me Very Happy

I had one of the famous Anglesey Banded Doggies. Some tit thinks it is funny to put rubber bands around the Dogs he catches then throw them back, so as they grow the band cuts into their flesh and eventually they die. Evil or Very Mad I cut the band off and let this one go as it deserved a second chance.

My day @ Amlwch 29.06.08 Amlwch_002

With regards to the pot boat, it was Terry asking him if he wanted to come and collect the fish at the weigh in, to use as bait, not me abusing him. If he had upset me, i would have been stripped off and after him with my knife between my teeth, a la Bond!

No mention of the porpoises Sam? There were a good few going back and forth in front of us all day, and all sorts of bird life, including Gannets diving when we arrived. Me and Ad did try feathering but didnt get anything! I think our hooks were too small for Porpoises anyhow Very Happy

7th from last........Out of 9. Thats third in my book and i was happy with that, especially as i beat the other 2 semi finalists in the knockout. So its me versus Norman in the final at Porth Iago!
Lets hope i can do as well against him as i did against Jan in one of the earlier rounds cheers

Bit disappointed with the wrasse fishing though. Its hard work getting 3 Wrasse from here now, and the minis werent playing today either. The only mini weighed in was Mitches Tompot, no Corkwings!

Just a quick word about Mitch, who had two species thrown out at the weigh in lol! I think we should have a whip round for a new measure for him lol!

well said Kev...
As for the porpoises... every time i got my phone from standby to camera mode they disappeared!!!
Evil or Very Mad
As for Porth Iago and norman in the knockout..... dont forget about it like i did last year when i had Norman in the final at Aberdesach and didnt go! I only remembered when mike reminded me when i came to the weigh in!

Sam.
