Five juniors fished the sixth and final leg of Colwyn Bay Victoria sea angling clubs junior summer league at Pensarn last night.
The weather stayed dry and it wasn’t too cold either so spirits were high as we started using the packs of frozen lug and variety of fishbait provided for the kids to use by our league sponsor, Jokers tackle of Greenfield Road in Colwyn Bay. Top bait as usual, thanks Joe!!!
The first couple of casts resulted in weed, but as the depth increased, the weed subsided and was replaced by hungry Whiting.
Tom was first in with one of 28cms.
Rhys was next up, with a double header to move into the lead, and soon all the competitors had fish on their cards.
Tom managed a treble header of decent whiting to move back into the lead before a lull in the fish at our end of the stretch.
Hari was catching steadily while all of the other lads struggled and it looked like he was going to seal the league title with a win in the final match to take it in style.
Unfortunately for him, the fish came back on the feed and Tom had another couple of fish and Jack moved into contention with four fish in the last half hour of the match.
Back at the cars, it was adding up time, and things were tight at the top.
Tom needed to beat Hari by 2 places to tie on points over the six matches. The league would then be decided on total length over the 6 matches.
Hari had 6 Whiting and a Rockling on his card, Tom had 7 Whiting, and Jack also had 7 Whiting.
Tom took 1st place with a total length of 188cms. Jack was second with a total length of 174cms and Hari was third with 165cms. Rhys was fourth with 2 Whiting for 51cms and Dan was fifth with one Whiting of 27cm.
As well as the cash prizes for the top 3 places, all the competitors received some bits of terminal tackle again kindly donated by Jokers.
This result led to a tie at the top of the league, with Hari and Tom both on 69 points from the 6 matches. When the total length of fish caught over the league is added up, Tom has caught a total of 840cms and so takes the league title, with Hari on 362cms to take second place. Well done to Tom and commiserations to Hari.
Many thanks to Phil Greaves, ( Phil the bill on Sunny Rhyl forum ) who had donated a Daiwa millionaire reel which was presented to Tom for winning the league.
Phil has also kindly donated a storm fixed spool reel and spare spool which will be presented to the winner of the 2013 Winter league.
The final league table looks like this.
1. Tom Jones 69 points 840cms
2. Hari Vincent 69ponits 362cms
3. Dan Peters 61 points 456cms
4. Jack Peters 47 points 484cms
