Just 3 boats fished the fifth match of CBVSACs boat league on Sunday which was the fourth to be held in the Straits due to the poor weather conditions this summer.
The rain held off all day but the wind was fresh in the morning and strengthened as forecast in the afternoon.
We launched just before high water and the 3 boats all sped off to their chosen marks.
There was only Dan the skipper and me as galley bitch today as brother Ad was off on his hols so with a man down we had to fish hard to keep up with the other 2 boats.
We were successful on the first mark with a Pout and a Poor Cod in the tank within a couple of drifts.
We moved to another mark for the minis but the ebb was in full flow by now and after a biteless half hour we upped anchor to head to Pwllfanogl to see what was there.
A Codling of 21/2 lb was added here and we soon got fed up and moved to a mark in the Swellies. This was even worse, with no fish or even bites but the tide was slowing down so it was back to try for the minis.
We added a few here including a Ballan Wrasse before heading back off to Pwllfanogl to try for something a bit bigger.
Dan found a Conger here which weighed 11.5lbs which was a nice bonus and we deliberated about what to target next with most of the easy species accounted for.
We headed up to Caernarfon to try for a Flounder and Eel.
After an hour or so up there we had caught a Flounder 2cm too small to show for our efforts, but had one of these from the Sand Smelt mark.
Species number 34 for the year for me.
We had a couple of drifts in the Dinorwic hole to try for a Whiting on the way back but these were too small too and then it was time to head in and get the weigh in done.
Bass Hunter won with 11 species and 1 specimen for 55 points. We managed second on O2B@C with 53 points and Hannah Lou were third with 9 and 2 for 51 points and Lewis Brownson was top junior.
Dans Conger won the roundfish pool and Hannah Lou won the flatfish pool with a Dab.
Some more photos of the day.
Richie, skipper of Hannah Lou with his Trigger Fish which was returned alive.
Bob, skipper of Bass Hunter with his specimen Ballan Wrasse of 3lb 9oz.
We had a bit of a shock when this big boy surfaced off the stern.
According to the grapevine, just over 60 anglers fished the Brynsiencyn Open while we were there with only 25 weighing in but there was a small Tope and a couple of Smoothies caught and released.
