Toms first outing was a trip to Llandudno Pier, where he caught loads of Pouting and Poor Cod. His first fish was a Pout, about 2 ounces.

Again, photos to follow.

It was so long ago i caught or should i say poached Embarassed my first fish i'm having trouble remembering the details Neutral but this is how i recall it, as kids we used to go to a little watchmakers shop in Denbigh where the owner of the shop would sell you hooks and split shot etc loose then we would dig some earthworms put them in a jar and go off to the river Ystrad just outside of Denbigh with our handlines, very often we would catch trout and snotties, it was a great adventure when your that age, that's when it all started for me.

If i said i could remember what my first fish was... i would probably be lying as ive got a memory like a goldfish!!! Rolling Eyes
If i had to take a guess, i would probably say a two inch rudd off one of the local ponds when i was a kid. And as my dad had a boat i would probably guess, if it was a sea fish it would have probably been a string of mackrel .

Talking about mackrel... over the past couple of weeks ive spent a couple of days course fishing on the Glasdir fishery below my house, i forgot how much fun it can be! (and also not waiting for the correct tide / or darkness or shelling out £20 for bait and another £40 for fuel!!!) All i needed was a loaf of bread and i was catching carp between 1lb and 2.5lb on a floating crust one after the other.... they can sure fight on light tackle as my lad found out... he thought it was just a matter of winching them in like he does on the mountain ponds as the average size there is about 2 ounces! you should have seen his face when his first proper fish took his bait (a mirror carp of about 2lbs) i wasnt sure if he was going for a swim or the line would snap as he proceeded to winch it in regardless of if the fish was ready or not!!!

I have to go back to 1959 for my first fish, Colwyn Bay pier with my grandad with a 6 foot cane rod and centre pin reel. We used to get a bite every drop, dabs and whiting usually, my first one was a little dab, I think there was an old photo of it somewhere, but it was probably one of those old sepia ones with faded edges lol!
