12 anglers aboard 5 boats fished Colwyn Bay Victoria sea angling clubs boat section fur and feather match in the Straits.
The match is fished on an individual basis, as a heaviest single fish format so we all headed off from Moel-Y-Don slip at 9am to get our marks to target a Huss or Conger.
Dan and I headed for the Pouting hole first off, and soon we both had a Doggie each in the bucket, but things were quiet here and although we both dropped small Huss here, we decided to move over to Pwllfanogl to get out of the increasing current.
Things were even quieter near the slates, so another move back down towards Plas Newydd was called for.
It was here that I managed to pick up my first small Huss, and although Dan had a double header of Huss, they were both too small and he couldn’t find one over the 61cm size limit.
Bobby and Frank then set up a short cast away from us on Bass Hunter. They promptly pulled out several small Huss between them in the next 10 minutes so we employed poaching tactics and repostitioned to within spitting distance of them.
I had a slightly bigger Huss here, and Frank and Bob had a couple more but Dan couldn’t find one, and neither could the crew of Lady M who also employed poaching tactics to the other side of Bass Hunter, as Goldilocks passed in the distance.
The tide run increased here and made the last hour or so nearly unfishable and before long, it was time to head back to Moel-Y-Don for the weigh in.
Frank ( the Salford mafia ) won with a Huss just over 4lb.
I was second with one a couple of ounces under 4lb....
....and Malcolm off Goldilocks was third with one around 3 and a half pounds.
The weather was fine, if not a little chilly when the wind got up in the afternoon but we had a good day and I picked up a few quid for second so happy days!
It was home then to put the boat to bed until the next time, which may well be a trip to the Mersey for a Coddo or 2 as we don’t have another club boat match until the start of our 2013 league next May.
Here are the rest of my shots...
Im sure Dan will post the full results when he gets a spare minute or 2.
