| Dear All
Have just moved into the area(penrhyn bay) from miles away..Benllech / Anglesey to be exact! Can anyone help me out as to where to go for bait, either shop bought or self dug etc.
Have usually sourced all my needs from ABC(Malcolm) in Beaumaris and BASS in Bangor but need somewhere closer this end.
Will join the club come January if you'll have me...spent many happy years with Amlwch sac with Alwyn Jones at the helm.
keen and eager to get going, where should i try first?? Shore fishing is what i do mostly.

| Hi, and welcome. You will find most of the lads use Geoffs in Rhyl, Rays shop on Colwyn Bay Pier or his wife Sarahs shop on Llandudno Pier, if buying bait. ( Ususally Rag or frozen fishbaits) Lug and crab are also available from these shops, but it is cheaper to collect them yourself. You are in an ideal spot for the crab, at Penrhyn, and Lug can be dug/pumped from the sand at Colwyn Bay. Regarding the fishing, this time of year will give Bass along the local beaches, with Dogfish, and Silver Eels that are moving out of the estuaries. There is a chance of a Smoothie or Huss, especially if fishing into deeper water off the Ormes or at North Shore. The Dee and Conwy estuaries hold Flounder and Eels, with the chance of Bass, but crab is the top bait, and i wouldnt fish without it. This time of year is always a little slow. This is why we have our away matches around now. Fishing will pick up in September, for Dogs, and as we get nearer to chrismas, Whiting and odd Codling will be caught in greater numbers. Keep an eye on the match reports, as we will be back in this area now, bar Septembers match, so you can see what is being caught, and if it is worth a trip out yourself. | |

| Hi Arthur and welcome to the area, I think Kev has covered almost everything regarding bait, but i will just add that in between the stone jetties at Penrhyn Bay is good for blow lug on almost any size tide with the odd sewie in amongst them also in Colwyn Bay opposite the Toad pub is an area where you can dig some good white rag only on the biggest of springs and it is hard going. I dont know if you are aware but we have our club HQ in Rhos on Sea overlooking the harbour on the front, it has a well stocked bar and a friendly atmosphere so feel free to pop in. As for the fishing your a bit spoilt for choice in Penrhyn Bay. | |

| Thanks for that.
Will get to the various locations as soon as.
I was going to start down at Penrhyn Bay, have found a way down to the rocky foreshore between two houses..if i remember rightly you come down some steps and there is a rocky groyne facing you - is it best to fish here( to the left or right of the groyne) or walk more towards the little Orme?
I have had some success searching for peelers here but they tend to be quite small - guess you guys have been here before me lol., but my its got Bass terrain written all over it. Would fish better in a slight north, north/easterly i would think.....
...read that in sea angler some years ago!
Was going to give it four hours on the flood, one rod at 80yards(i cant cast a baited rig much further..ok ok 70 yards then!) and one dropping short 20,25yards with big baits - mackerel, peeler/sandeel pennel mounted pulley....what do you think?

| Sounds like a good plan.
Anywhere between the groyne and the Little Orme will give good fishing, but tackle losses will be high.
Good luck, and post your results on here please. | |
