Hi Dogger
If you choose to join the club you can print an application form off the website, complete and send to the address on the form but i would hang fire until the 1st January 2009, the reason being the club year runs from April 1st to the last day in March but a new member joining in January 2009 has membership for 15 months to last day of March 2010, so in effect you get 3 months free, however if you were to join now or any time before the end of the year you would have to renew your membership next April, the only drawback is you would be unable to fish this years closed fur&feathers, but the shore winter league kicks off in January so you would be able to fish that if you choose, hope thats clear Dogger Smile

Hi Dan
Boat fur & feather is down for December 7th but as you know the Mersey Open has been re-scheduled on that date so i suppose now it's up to the lads who intended to fish the f & f, do they want to keep the f & f on it's original date or would the majority be fishing the Open and prefer to have the f & f on a later date ( looked at the tide table and the 21st is the better tide, the 14th is a big spring, not good for the Straits ), what is your preference Dan

I was thinking of doing the Mersey match so the 21st is fine with me.I think there'l be a few boats from the club doing the mersey 1 anyway so the 21st sounds good Very Happy

Tony,

We hold a christmas match for paid up members of each section, every year. These matches are funded by the club, and instead of paying out the takings on the day, there are loads of prizes of festive fayre.

Traditionally, the prizes were either fur or feather, ie meaty dead things to eat over xmas, although these days, the match should really be renamed booze and sweets. The top few prizes are usually vouchers for ASDA, so you can spend them on whatever you want.

Every angler gets a prize, whether they weigh in or not, and any prizes left over go into the raffle, which usually has plenty on offer.

The shore section weigh in, and have their prize giving at the club house, and the boat section hold their presentation at the clubhouse after their match. Steve, the steward usually supplies something warming to eat, and there beer flows for those fortunate enough not to have to drive home.

Along with presentation night, the fur and feathers are the highlight of the clubs calendar. A good chance to enjoy a beer with your mates, after a hard days fishing.

Personally, i cant wait!!!

You are more than welcome to come along and fish either fur and feather, as long as you are a club member.

Because the cod open in the mersey was re-scheduled for the 7th December ( our F&F date ) and the majority of section members would be fishing the open we have re-scheduled our boat F&F for December 21st, i know it's a bit close to Christmas but we have no alternative, so i hope we can have a decent turnout for a short match and then back to the clubhouse for the results, prizes and a few drinks after drunken drunken drunken

PostSubject: Re: Boat fur and feather   Boat fur and feather Empty22nd December 2008, 7:00 pm

The boat section held their annual Fir & Feather on Sunday 21st December. The event was in doubt at one stage with strong to gale force southwesterly winds forecast and with low water around 11-00am this meant we would have at least two hours of wind against tide conditions in the Straits not pleasant at all. But we decided to take a look and proceed with the match.
Seven boats made the effort to attend the comp which taking into account the conditions was a decent turnout so after me and the misses spending the best part of Friday looking for the best deals in various supermarkets I was fairly pleased with the support so thanks goes to all the 18 anglers who fished, we decided to fish a four hour match finishing at 1-0pm which was plenty in these conditions.
Right now down to the fishing or the lack of it, the format for the F&F comp is you bring in your best round and flatfish and the combined weight gives you your position in the match, it is done on an individual basis not as a team event like the league so basically it’s heaviest weight wins the match. We decided to fish Pwllfannogl area to try for any huss that may be still knocking about, all we had was dogs on the ebb so we moved position soon as the tide started to flood to an area were we had caught a fair few huss earlier in the year and were most of the boats had fished at the start of the match, the move paid off with a couple of huss caught, not big fish but in the area of 3 pound they would more than likely beat any dogs caught, a lot of the boats had deserted this mark before the flood and gone down to the Beaumaris end of the Straits to try for a flat to go with their dogs hoping no huss would show, Mark Singleton, Glyn Hughes and James Singleton ( junior ) on Sea Pigeon had decided to stay at Pwllfannogl chasing the huss and it paid off as they caught the two heaviest fish of the match and James was unlucky with a decent huss spitting the bait on the surface, Ian Boulton on Rosea was also unfortunate with a decent huss spitting the bait, Sea Pigeon fished the last hour down by Bangor pier hoping for a flat and it turned out to be Glyn’s day when he boated a 15 ounce dab to take the heaviest flat pool to add to the heaviest round pool he took for the 4lb+ huss and Glyn took the first prize hamper with his combined weight of 5-05-00 so well done Fester you did it in style today when fish were hard to find.

In second spot with a huss around the 3-08-00 was skipper of Sea Pigeon Mark Singleton.

Here’s Mark and Fester with their winnings.
To complete the hat trick James Singleton on Sea Pigeon took the junior prize.

Well done James.
Gary Jones fishing on Rosea took the last of the hampers with a huss just over 3 pound.

Cheryl Beerkamp took the ladies prize fishing off husband Marks boat Tiradu.
